Hamas: Meeting with UN envoy ‘bad’, ‘not positive’

Head of Hamas in Gaza, Yahya Al-Sinwar, described his meeting with the UN envoy to the Strip as “bad” and “not at all positive”.

Speaking to journalists following the meeting with UN Middle East Peace Envoy, Tor Wennesland, yesterday Al-Sinwar said: “The meeting was bad, it was not at all positive.”

“They listened to us attentively, but there are no signs that there are intentions towards solving the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip,” Al-Sinwar added.

“It is clear that the occupation continues to practice its policies against us and our people in the Gaza Strip,” Sinwar said.

Hamas will now meet with Palestinian factions to decide which course of action to take as Israel persists in tightening it’s siege which is entering its 15th year, he added.

A Hamas source who spoke on condition of anonymity told the Turkish Daily Sabah newspaper that Wennesland passed a “negative message” from Israel, saying that “Israel does not intend to end the siege.”

Daily Sabah reported that the UN declined to comment.

Israel said it would permit the “limited export” of farm produce from the Gaza Strip yesterday, as well as trucks carrying clothes and fabrics to leave.
