Manchester City’s Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez received thanking and appreciation from an enormous number of Palestinians after he raised the Palestine flag at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday during his team’s celebration of the title win.
Riyad Mahrez, and shortly after the match whistle, became the most prominent celebrated figure by Palestinians on social media, as he took a different celebration than his teammates.
Prominent Sheikh Mahmoud Al-Hassanat posted a picture of Mahrez carrying the Palestine flag on Twitter and wrote: “Thank you Riyad Mahrez.”
Mahrez posted the picture of him with the Algerian flag draped around his shoulders and the Palestine flag raised high on his social media accounts.
Leicester City’s England Under-21 international Hamza Choudhury and French Under-21 defender Wesley Fofana held a Palestinian flag on 15 May. Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Ivory Coast international Amad Diallo followed suit days later.
