Palestinian and Middle East Affairs Analyst, Avi Issacharoff, reports that the PA President’s decision of elections delay was taken based on fears of loss after polls showing Abbas going over a cliff.
Issacharoff added that the past week’s chaotic decisions proved the Palestinian internal affairs’ policy is correlated to a high extent with the ‘Israeli drive.’
He therefore clarified though the Israeli government played no role in delaying the Palestinian elections, the PA President based his false allegations on the Israeli side.
Regarding Maariv, the major reason beyond Jibril Rajoub’s condition, which expressed the need to run the elections in Jerusalem, is to avoid the loss of Fatah party’s Abbas and protect its leaders from the sharp danger anticipated forthcoming.
Worth mentioning, Abbas had announced in a previous concern further postponement for the Palestinian legislative and general elections, claiming the Israeli government informed the EU they would not allow Jerusalem to take part in the elections, which the EU has totally negated shortly after.
