Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya on Friday met with the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov in Gaza.
Shehab reporter said that Haneyya and a number of Hamas officials met with Mladenov, who arrived in Gaza on Friday morning and left hours later, to discuss the latest understandings reached regarding the blockade and the ceasefire.
Mladenov had visited the Gaza Strip on 13 May to make sure calm was restored in the besieged area to make way for the implementation of donor-funded projects.
Mladenov’s visit on Friday came amid growing tension between Israel and Palestinian resistance groups in Gaza after Israel has backtracked on the latest ceasefire agreement reached under the auspices of Egypt.
Israel has further imposed a naval blockade on the Gaza Strip citing fire balloons launched from the enclave toward neighboring Israeli settlements as a reason for the move.
Gaza resistance groups in response fired rockets at Israeli settlements on Thursday evening, while the Israeli occupation army bombed several sites and agricultural lands in Gaza at dawn Friday. No casualties were reported in any of the attacks.
