The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has called on UN organizations and relevant EU institutions to take urgent and immediate action to pressure the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) to stop its escalating violations against the Palestinians in Jerusalem.
In a recent press release, the Euro-Med said it had documented the storming of the Aqsa Mosque Compound by the Israeli police last Tuesday morning as they used excessive violence against worshipers in the area of Bab al-Rahma, injuring 20 of them and arresting about 15 others.
Enez Zayed, Euro-Med’s chairwoman, stressed that Israel’s practices against worshipers at the Aqsa Mosque and preventing Muslim worshipers from performing their religious activities are a clear violation of international human rights law, particularly the right to freedom of religion and belief.
Zayed called on all human rights organizations across the globe to work in their respective countries on urging their leaders to pressure Israel to respect its international obligations, including the protection of religious places, sites, shrines and symbols in Jerusalem.
Euro-Med Monitor calls on the IOA to immediately release all prisoners detained without legal or judicial warrants and to stop the policy of arbitrary detention and banishment from religious places, which the IOA systematically exercises against the Palestinians in Jerusalem.
